Our Methodology
Every ranking, review, and comparison on RankGrids follows the same evidence-based process. Here's exactly how we research, score, and publish content you can rely on.
Four Core Principles
These commitments underpin every piece of content we publish.
Independence
No ranking position is paid for. Affiliate links fund operations but are clearly disclosed and never alter scores.
Transparency
Scoring criteria and weights are published alongside every ranking so you can audit our work.
Rigour
We only publish a ranking when we have sufficient data. Thin or unverifiable categories stay in draft until they meet our bar.
Recency
Stale data is worse than no data. Every ranking shows its last-reviewed date and is flagged for update when market conditions change.
The Five-Step Process
Applied consistently to every ranking we create, from consumer tech to global universities.
Research & Discovery
We identify the most relevant products, services, institutions, and concepts in each category through market analysis, expert consultation, and community feedback.
Testing & Analysis
Each candidate is evaluated against a standardised rubric covering performance, value, usability, and category-specific criteria. Where possible, hands-on testing is conducted.
Scoring & Weighting
Raw scores are normalised and weighted by importance within the category. Multiple independent reviewers contribute scores to minimise individual bias.
Editorial Review
A senior editor cross-checks all data, sources, and conclusions before publication. Sponsored or affiliate relationships are disclosed and never influence rankings.
Ongoing Updates
Rankings are re-evaluated whenever significant new entrants, price changes, or product updates occur, and on a fixed schedule at minimum once per year.
Content Types Explained
We publish three distinct formats, each optimised for a different decision-making need.
Rankings
Ordered lists of the best options in a category, built from aggregated expert scores across multiple criteria. Every position is justified with data.
Reviews
In-depth, single-item analyses written by domain specialists. Scored on a 10-point scale and structured around real-world use cases.
Comparisons
Head-to-head breakdowns of two or more options across a shared set of criteria so you can see exactly where each one wins or loses.
Affiliate & Sponsorship Disclosure
Some links on RankGrids are affiliate links, meaning we may earn a commission if you make a purchase. This never influences our rankings or review scores — affiliate status is noted wherever applicable. We do not accept payment for ranking positions. If you believe a ranking is inaccurate or outdated, please use the feedback button on that page.
